Looking for a candle

As the humidity continues to rise in the midwest and approaches the stifling, choking feeling that we haven't had in a while, the longing to return to Hawaii wells up within me.

As I think back on my stay there I remember well the smell of the ocean and I miss it very much. For about a week now I've been looking for a candle that smells like the ocean, and though many labels look promising none has yet matched the real smell. Does anybody know if such a candle even exists? Or am I being too hopeful and need to be content with my memories?

  1. If you haven't already, you might try Yankee Candle Co. candles, though I think that you're search might be futile. Yankee seems to be the most authentic, scent-wise, that I've found.

  2. You're right about Yankee Candle. They are the best that I've found and they're lilac candle is great. Alas, they don't have one that truly smells like the ocean.

On a happier note, though, two years ago at Christmas time they had a balsam & cedar candle, the best candle I've ever smelled. Last year it was discontinued but I'm told it's coming back this year. I'll be stocking up on them :)

  3. I haven't tried that one. I should check it out later this year.

I'm on my way outside to prove that "Fresh Cut Grass" is a little off.

  4. Alas, try as you might, I don't think you will find anything to duplicate, or at least provide a reasonable facsimilie, of the scent of Hawaii. I haven't and believe me, I tried. But should I happen upon a scent that reminds me of fresh Kona coffee in the morning, pineapple so ripe it melts in your mouth and the sweet smell of salty ocean air, I will happily purchase one for you too.

    Dear Father,
    I hope this helps
Bath and Body Works has a new fragrance called
    Sea Island Cotton
They may have a wallfower in the same fragrance or similar

  6. Father, I find that having the Hawaiian soaps or bath salts open around the apt. give us a nice Hawaiian smell and feel.

  7. Perhaps you should have brought back a bucket of seawater, Father, and smell it at your leisure. Haha...

I live on an island and my house is about a mile away from the sea. It used to be closer but they reclaimed the land and the sea is now further off. But I swear I can't smell the difference =)
