Throughout the World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid this past August, protesters gathered each evening to protest the costs paid the Spanish and Madrid government associated with the WYD.
As it turns out - and was known at the time - the entire cost of the WYD was covered by registration and fees and private donations; the government paid nothing. But neither the protesters nor the media - particularly the British media - paid no attention to this fact.
A few days ago the WYD organizing office announced a staggering a figure of profits made in Madrid during the course of the WYD: $200 million.
Will the protesters now kindly apologize? I won't hold my breath.
Will the media now kindly apologize? I won't hold my breath for that, either.
