Despite known risks, FDA won't withdraw the pill

From Catholic World News:

The US Food and Drug Administration has announced that some birth-control pills may cause a 50% increase in the risk of blood clots for the women who take them.
In reaction to the finding about several popular contraception pills that contain the ingredient drospirenone, the FDA has not called for a ban on the pills. On the contrary, the Boston Globe reports, the federal agency “advises women taking birth control pills with drospirenone not to stop the product before talking to their doctors first” [more].
