A Prayer For an End to Storms

As we brace for an unprecedented arrival of two hurricanes this week in the Hawaiian islands preparations are well underway before hurrican Iselle arrives tomorrow evening.

In the morning I will offer the Holy Mass in Immaculate Conception church and will pray For an End to Storms. Please join your prayers to ours:
O God, to whose commands
all the elements give obedience,
we humbly entreat you,
that the stilling of fearsome storms
may turn a powerful menace
into an occasion for us to praise you.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Saints Damien and Marianne, pray for us!

I can say that though I am concerned about what weather may soon arrive over the Big Island, I am not worried, probably because the locals do not seem worried. I had dinner this evening in Kailua Kona with the pastor and a deacon and there are no signs that life is other than it usually is here. Still, that may change tomorrow night; we will just have to wait and see.
