Surprising news

Today I read the surprising news that lawmakers in New York will consider lifting the statute of limitations in sexual abuse cases in the wake of the increasing scandal with Sandusky and others.

This is good news and should be a help toward addressing this serious plague on society, but only if they do it properly.  Keeping the statute of limitations in effect for public schools is a serious mistake and an affront on justice.

  1. If they want it all treated perfectly evenly they must also remove the sovereign immunity protections most public schools possess. As an agent of the state they get to play by a different set of rules, which includes tight restrictions on the ability to sue and how much one can recover in a lawsuit.
