Of all of the changes in the English text of the Roman Missal, one pleases me more than any of them combined: the change of the words spoken by the priest following the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God).
Formerly the priest showed to the people the Precious Body and Blood of Our Lord and said, "This is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper."
Now the words spoken by the priest are more in keeping with the biblical text spoken by Saint John the Baptist, "Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb."
This morning as I spoke those powerful words, "Behold the Lamb of God," I heard this this in my mind:
That's a good way to start the day.
