Since I've been posting about food

...I might as well continue :)

The priests of the Effingham deanary are gathering today for their monthly luncheon together. I'm going to have a pizza Margarita. Oh, it's so good!

  1. From someone who is a purist about pizza (New Jersey cheese pizza being the best) can you please tell me what a pizza margherita is?

  2. You have to try one. It has tomato, mozzarella and basil. They're the best!

  3. I believe it was named in honor of a queen of Italy, Umberto I's wife, perhaps.

  4. Oh, that sounds good! I sometimes make fresh pasta sauce like that. Fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, a little olive oil and toss it on hot pasta. I think a pizza with that combo would be tasty as well.

  5. Yes, it was Umberto I's wife. Pizza Margarita was invented for her visit to Naples, around 1889. The ingredients represented the red, white, and green of the Italian flag.
    Sounds good, too.
