A gift from a former parishioner

In addition to being home of the annual pumpkin chucking contest, the town of Girard, Illinois - where I served for a time as pastor of St. Patrick parish - is also home to a budding artist.

I received yesterday an expected package from a former parishioner who has nurtured a hobby of painting gourds. The package - as you might have guessed - contained one of her charming creations:

Much to my surprise, the package was not at all dented and birdhouse survived the trans-Atlantic voyage quite well. I hope it makes a second voyage just as well so I can hang in my garden, wherever that might be.

  1. Are these sold anywhere?
I'd love to get one for my mom for Mother's Day. I try to get her a garden item each year and this is PERFECT!
