A few moments ago His Holiness Pope Francis named a new Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans: Father Fernand Cheri, O.F.M.
The Bishop-elect is a son of Saint Francis of Assisi in the Sacred Heart Province and until now was Director of Campus Ministry at my alma Mater, Quincy University and Coordinator for Black Catholic Ministry of the Office for Social Concerns and Respect for Life of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.
Congratulations, Bishop-elect Cheri! It's not everyday both my hometown and my alma mater are mentioned in the daily bulletin of the Holy See!
