Among the many questions being raised at the Ordinary Synod presently underway is that of the role of the conscience in the life of the faithful. While moral theologians are often well trained in the nuances associated to the conscience, most people are not so familiar with them. This lack of understanding of not only what the conscience is but also what it means to follow it, has lead to grave misunderstandings and confusion within and without the Church.
Recognizing this confusion, Jimmy Akin has written an excellent post on conscience and communion following his usual precise and thorough method. Be sure to give it a good read.
