Accomplishing tasks in Rome

A friend shared a simple drawing on Facebook this morning that is meant to be a sort of encouragement to continue pressing forward through various difficulties and hardships, but it instead reminded me very much of what it is like to attempt accomplish things in Rome:

I am continually repeating the works Bishop Paprocki said to me shortly before I left for Rome: "If you set out in the morning with four things to accomplish and by the end of the day you have accomplished one of them, it has been a successful day."

On a more serious note, this is often the way of life, isn't it?  Life is filled with various hills and valleys, storms and troubles, but at the end, if we have lived well and fought the good fight, we arrive at sunshine, the light of God's face.

  1. And that is only after visiting four offices in order to obtain a foreigner-used bicycle license on the previous day.
