Some weeks ago Bishop Lucas forwarded to me correspondence he received from Achbishop Wuerl regarding the Papal visit of next week.
In the notes pertaining to priests was the curious instruction that we are to bring with us for the Mass at Nationals Park an "alb and red stole."
Checking the liturgical calendar I saw no reason for the red stole and wondered what this might mean. Today, the answer is clear.
The Holy See - in a second "first" for a Papal visit - has released the Missal - the offical prayerbook - of the liturigcal celebrations of the Pontiff while in these United States.
On Thursday the Holy Father will celebrated the Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit.
