Catholic humor?

Last week as I travelled the deanery collecting signatures from my brother priests, I stopped in St. Michael the Archangel church in Sigel because I hadn't been inside in quite some time.

As I looked around this window caught my attention:

The window is directly above the door to what is now the restroom; I suspect the room was originally a sacristy.
The humorous part is that the door leads right into the restoom - no hallway or antechamber - with the window clearly visible from within the restroom. Just one more reminder that God is always watching.

  1. Uh-oh...I thought that triangle with an eye in it icon belonged to the Freemasons.

  2. I thought it looked very "DaVinci Codish" for being in a Catholic Church.

How did the petition gathering go?

  4. The eye of God, in the triangle of the Trinity, was a popular symbolic decoration in Baroque churches, right when Freemasonry was founded. They were rather eclectic in their browsing, so they grabbed it, along with everything else that looked suitably exciting and mysterious.

  5. Ellen, the petition is still the pondering phase. I'm still trying to collect a couple of signatures from priests.

I spoke with the publisher this morning and he has been in contact with the Associated Press. They are standing by their article but are looking into "claims" that I, and others, have made.

    We'll see how this goes.

  6. Is the restroom underused, perchance? One bowel's must be strongly constituted or perhaps be in the midst of a real emergency in order to have to go in that restroom. I don't think I could, with the Sleepless Eye staring at me like that.

Ok. God is everywhere. But let's face it. There are certain places where we wish God isn't. =)

  7. I'm not sure, Andrew, but if it keeps people out of the rest room during the sacred liturgy - emergencies excepted - then it's a great idea.

  8. Ah. There is no humor like the clergy humor.
