I can make kalua pork again!

In my last post on the usefulness of index cards, I mentioned that some things we use on a regular basis in the United States of America are either impossible to find (like index cards) or very difficult to find.

I have wanted a crock pot here in Rome for the last years and have looked for one in many different stores, but without success. Each time I did not find one in a store I told myself to look on the Italian version of Amazon, but never remembered to do so when I returned to my rooms.

After failing again this past weekend in this search, I finally remembered to look online for a crock pot and was both surprised and delighted to find one. I am happy to say that it arrived today:

Know I can finally make my favorite Hawaiian meal: Kalua pork (I brought the seasonings back with my from Hawaii). Soon it will be time for a luau on the terrace outside of my room. It is too cold in the evenings here in Rome for an outdoor meal, but it is not too cold in the afternoons just yet.

  1. Crock pot?!!! Isn't there a nice spot in Rome to dig an emu?

    1. I can't be specific, other than to say you place a pork loin in the crock pot, add 1/2 cup or so of water, a bit of liquid smoke, and 2 or 3 teaspoons of "ono" seasoning from Hawaii, something of a mixture of sea salt, alae salt, ginger, and garlic.

  3. Good enough.
    Thanks!
