Cardinal George out of surgery

After yesterday's surgery to remove a cancerous bladder within Francis Cardinal George, the Archbishop of Chicago is said to be doing "well."

Throughout the five years that I studied at Mundelein Seminary I had the privilege of serving as the master of ceremonies for Cardinal George on a number of occassions. I also had the great pleasure of listening to His Emmincence speak to the seminarians on a great variety of topics. He is a holy man and a true shepherd of the Lord's flock.

The Very Reverend John F. Canary, Vicar General of the Archbishop, issued the following statement after the surgery:

Cardinal George is out of surgery and is doing well after his successful bladder operation at Loyola University Medical Center.
The Cardinal has already expressed his thanks and gratitude to all the people of Chicago for their prayers and best wishes. He also extends his gratitude to his doctors, nurses and all the members of his medical team.
During the days and weeks ahead, we will continue to ask all Catholics in the Archdiocese and other friends and colleagues to pray for the Cardinal's recovery and return to his active life.
It is reported that the doctors expect a fully recovery from the surgery. Please continue to keep the good Cardinal in your prayers in the days and weeks ahead.
