A Tolton pilgrimage

His Excellency the Most Reverend Joseph N. Perry, Postulator of the Cause of Canonization of Father Augustus Tolton, will visit Quincy this Wednesday and Thursday for the canonical examination of the grave of the Servant of God in St. Peter's cemetery.

Bishop Perry will be joined on Friday by His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago, His Excellency the Most Reverend Francis Cane, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, and a few others.  Because of a prior commitment, I will be unable to be there Wednesday.

On Thursday, Bishop Perry and company will travel to St. Peter Church in Brush Creek, Missouri where Father Tolton was baptized.  They will join the Most Reverend John Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City, for Mass, together with seminarians from Mundelein Seminary and the faithful of the Brush Creek area.  Bishop Paprocki and I will be there, as well.

Following the Mass, the group of pilgrims will return to Quincy to tour the Dr. Robert Eel's House, an important stop on the Underground Railroad.  Afterwards they will visit the historical markers at the places where Father Tolton served in Quincy.

Thursday will be a most enjoyable day.
