Some weeks ago, following the announcement of a contest to design the liturgical furnishings for use during the Papal Visit of the Holy Father Pope Francis, I asked the question, "When a pope visits, are liturgical furnishings necessary?"
Whether new furnishings are necessary or not, the winners of the contest were announced and an initial prototype of the design for the papal chair and altar to be used in Washington, D.C. were released:
