It looks like a text for clergy . . . would it benefit the laity, like me? Just curious. I would cough up the money for it . . . esp. for the examination of conscience. To be sure, it is principally a text for priests but it could also be helpful for the laity to both prepare for confession themselves and to help others prepare for confession. It has a helpful selection of Scripture passages relating to sin and forgiveness and the Introduction to the ritual would be helpful as well.
Still, it seems a bit pricey just for an examination of conscience so I googled around a bit and found a few that might be helpful (and are free):
- from the National Catholic Register
- from Fr. John Hardon, S.J., via EWTN
- from Fr. Donald F. Miller, F.SS.P., via A Catholic Mom in Hawaii
- from Fr. Thomas Weinandy, via the USCCB
I put together some simple resources for Reconciliation on the diocesan blog in December 2008.
