Prayers are needed

...for the congregation of First Baptist Church in Maryville, Illinois, whose Pastor, Fred Winters, was shot and killed this morning at the beginning of their service.

In one of the news stories, I could not help but notice this:

[State Police Director Larry] Trent says about 150 people in attendance
initially believed the episode was a skit being performed as part of the service
at First Baptist Church in Maryville.

Without meaning to sound heartless and unsympathetic, I can't help but find in that yet another reason I'm glad to be Catholic.

Maryville is in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.
